Beyond The Clouds was slightly slow in parts but overall, it's an honest film. Good cinema actually .
The special effects was fantastic, the scene where Amir runs to flee the police is so real, the strain so tangible, it's almost as if we are running ourselves. The sets and costumes were so very realistic, and that i loved the locations. i assumed the flamingo mud flats scene was in Sewree, Mumbai but it seems this is often the (currently within the news) Sambhar Lake of Rajasthan. Was Dhobi Ghat the Mumbai location or was that too a group elsewhere?
I read the professional critic reviews which to me seem overly harsh, even as long as individual tastes vary from person to person. together who likes movies and good, realistic cinema especially, I found Beyond The Clouds to be quite up to standards. I also read that Tara's role was initially offered to Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut, both of whom refused. Thank God for that !!! Malavika was the right Tara, naive and natural, with none starry heroine airs. Though she did look a touch like Deepika in some scenes :-) :-)
Ishaan Khattar was fantastic, so real, so natural as Amir. He was fine in Dhadak too, but Dhadak the commercial Bollywood film wasn't a patch on its original Sairaat and lightweight years faraway from BTC.
I loved the Paati, the 2 daughters of Ashi esp. Dhwani Rajesh, Ashi, the kid star who played Chotu. Tanishta Chatterjee and Naseeruddin Shah didn't have much to portray given their immense talents, however it had been nice to ascertain them which they are doing not mind doing minimal roles in good films unlike most other "stars".
AR Rahman's background score was subtle though nothing memorable, coming to consider it, it wasnt meant to be anything quite a background score that complemented without overwhelming the plot.
Though overall tragic or a minimum of heavily bitter - sweet, BTC is more matter of fact 'slice of life' than a really sad movie.
Also loved the utilization of shadow silhouettes. Majid Majidi is in any case Majid Majidi, and Beyond The Clouds certainly satisfied my idea of an honest film.
